How much does water softener installation cost in Ontario?

The equipment is the larger part and it depends on capacity and the control valve. Installation depends on where the softener goes, whether there is a nearby drain and power, and whether a bypass loop needs to be added. Is the water in Southwestern Ontario hard?

Yes, across most of the region. Municipalities that draw on groundwater, including Waterloo Region and Guelph, have among the hardest water in Ontario, and rural wells between London and the GTA are often harder still. Lake-fed systems such as Toronto's and Hamilton's are softer but still scale over time. That is why softeners are standard across Southwestern Ontario and why water heaters and fixtures fail early without one.

Do I need a softener or a filter?

Hardness needs a softener. Iron, manganese and sulphur need a filter designed for them, sometimes ahead of the softener. Bacteria need UV. Taste, chlorine and drinking water quality are a reverse osmosis or carbon question. Many rural homes need two or three of these in sequence, and the order matters. A water test tells us which, and we will not sell you equipment the test does not support.

Yes. Iron, hardness, sulphur, sediment and bacteria are the usual findings in wells across rural Southwestern Ontario. Public Health Ontario tests well water for bacteria at no charge, and we test for the rest and design the treatment sequence from the results.

Softeners need salt kept topped up and a service check every year or two for the valve, resin and brine tank. Sediment and carbon filters change on a schedule set by use. Reverse osmosis membranes typically last a few years with pre-filters changed more often, and UV lamps are replaced annually.
